What is measured

The most widely accepted model of intelligence (Cattell, Horn and Carroll) separates abilities that tend to go together, but are not the same. Prisma measures six.

    How the number is calculated

Each answer changes the next question. Get it right and the next challenge goes up a step; get it wrong and it goes down. It is the same principle behind the adaptive tests used in major exams.

The score for each ability becomes an index on the classic scale, with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. Your IQ combines all six, giving half weight to mental agility, which matters less for reasoning.

You get a range, not just a number. Every test has a margin of error. Saying what that margin is is part of measuring well.

Educational estimate. It does not replace an assessment by a psychologist, and item difficulties are still calibrated by a model, not by a population sample.
